300 hundred metres, 3 hours

Updated: Jul 19, 2021

One tropical downpour, one rough road, chaos. As we drove north into East Africa, El Nino followed us and heavy rains washed away bridges behind us. This we only discovered on the way back - fortunately that had all been repaired by then.

Many a night was a very soggy affair, affecting the kids more than us in our roof top tent.

We entered the Serengeti plains on dry but rough roads and while there, the heavens opened in a great tropical downpour.

What greated us as we drove up out of the plains was total chaos. The only road in and out of the area is used by tourists in 4x4 driving in, tourists in 4x4s driving out, busses, taxis and trucks loaded with unfortunate animals, all converging on a hilly section of 300 metres. It took the whole morning to get through and an extra night on the road.
